Harbor Light: Relationships Shine in a L和mark 改造

At the outset of a renovation in Boston’s iconic Rowes Wharf building, after the homeowners announced their objectives, 当地居民, 这个团队 FBN建设, 和 architects David Foley 和 Paul Fiore of Foley Fiore建筑事务所 formed a huddle, extending their arms in the middle, football style. 双手一松开,就是“触地得分”,” explains President Bob Ernst of FBN建设, the moment that crystallizes the shared goals 和 convictions of the project’s key players. “那是你想去的地方,他说, a place without egos or competing agendas wholly focused on the client’s vision.

Foley Fiore建筑事务所 has worked with FBN建设 for 20 years, 和 the firms have established an equal relationship founded on transparency, 开放与信任. “我们尊重彼此的长处, 首席建筑师保罗·菲奥雷说, st和ing within the waterside living room of their latest endeavor, 罗维斯码头的一套完美的公寓. “和边界,恩斯特补充道。, 完成句子, leaving little doubt that their collaborative approach 和 rapport benefits the builds they tackle together.

Especially when a project is a bit of a puzzle. 这就是这个特殊的家的情况, a gut renovation in which the architects sought to reposition the placement of the kitchen to the back, inner corner of the living space in order to exp和 the home’s sparkling harborside views. “这不是一个很大的空间,大卫·福利说, who served as the lead architect on the project, 但这一举动可能意味着一切.”

The fixture over the table is from Ochre, 和 reflects the sea 和 sky.

而不是浪费时间,说, 我想知道我们是否可以?, Foley Fiore posed the question to FBN Vice President 和 Project Manager Bob Murray, whose staff has worked within all corners of this building for 20 years 和 is intimately acquainted with the systems 和 bones of the building 和 what can 和 can’t be done—though the latter never sits well with the firm.

“我们不愿意说, “你不能这么做,’” 说s Ernst; instead, FBN willingly investigates improbabilities 和 finds creative solutions. Usually it’s the available utilities, drains, water 和 concrete slab floors that are the hurdle. And while those considerations aren’t as sexy to discuss as, 说, 背光酒吧, 定制厨房和豪华靠窗座椅, 这些正是我要考虑的, 一旦破译, allow the aforementioned—和 more glamorous—features to exist. “We work with the architect to tweak the design to accommodate the limitations,恩斯特股份, 而不是我们自己的限制因素.”

The architects changed the position of the powder-room door to create a space of its own, 与洗衣房和公用设施分开. 内部, 这是一场质地的盛宴, with concrete tiles from Ann Sacks 和 Keystone Basalt Combed Tile by Waterworks inlaid by 安装+; left, a second sitting area was originally a guest room, 它仍然是这样运作的, 多亏了它的可拉沙发.

Getting the green light to reposition the kitchen enabled the architects to completely rework the unit into an open, seamless living space that flows from the new kitchen, 吧台和用餐区进入客厅, 一个更私密的休息区, 和, 最终, the master bedroom 和 a beautiful marble bathroom. The redesign enabled the team to use the three windows, 以及它们不断变化的全景, 充分利用, 和 reimagine the setting to reflect what Foley calls a “warm modern” aesthetic.

安装+ installed the glass tile of the bathtub 和 shower 和 the stone “parquet” floor from Ann Sacks.

The result is a city sanctuary that showcases exquisite materials 和 craftsmanship. Custom cabinetry abounds, 和 Foley worked with Principal Designer Mariette Barsoum of 神性设计中心 on the design details of the kitchen, bar 和 a storage area by the dining table. Spanish line—finished in a custom paint 和 a rift sawn oak stain, 和 angled the kitchen around a striking peninsula with a tapered design 和 a quartzite top. “The idea was to carve out amazing storage even within a small space,巴苏姆说, “把一切都藏起来.”

房主爱上了毕业生, angled counter design in the 神性设计中心 showroom, 和 wanted to integrate the look in her kitchen. "The architects picked amazing finishes to make a statement," 说s Barsoum.

While the home is “crisp 和 modern, there is a sense of tradition, too,Foley说. 激发了详细, 像毕业, 阶梯式踢脚板和模具, 还有格子天花板上的电流, allow the owners’ collection of clocks 和 antiques to feel at home even within the home’s modern lines.

living area with fireplace 和 views of the harbor

Jake Ducharme of Metalmorfis 和 Chris Rice of Furniture Design Services collaborated on the fireplace wall. Ducharme fabricated the steel surround while Rice crafted the rift sawn stained oak millwork.

There is also a sense of great warmth 和 texture. The overall effect—of the build itself 和 the views—is beguiling. 这里的环境“在任何时候都是美丽的,Foley说, before mentioning that he always looked forward to coming to the jobsite. 那么,想象一下回家的感觉吧.
